Kristen Treat, LMHP, LPC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner/Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide services to individuals in Bellevue, Omaha, Papillion, Ralston, LaVista, Millard, Council Bluffs, Lincoln and, upon occasion, in other areas around the state. My office is located in Papillion.
My approach to counseling is client focused with aspects of acceptance and commitment therapy woven in. What this means is my focus is on understanding you and helping you get to where you want and need to be. One of the most important aspects of therapy is the foundation of a safe and trusting relationship. Within this context, clients can learn new skills, challenge old beliefs, and remove barriers that hinder personal growth and development. I believe that you are the best expert on your life, and I view my role as a guide and source of support as you increase self-understanding, insight, and awareness.
Clients are encouraged to set their own goals for therapy, to improve their situations with new skills they learn and insights they gain, and be active participants in their treatment. We work collaboratively to consider what a successful outcome would look like, what has been tried in the past, and how an your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences influence your current situation, in helping you craft your individual treatment plans.
Kristen Treat, Personally
I am a single mom with six delightful and naughty children. They range in age from three years old all the way up to twelve year old twins. When not in the office or chasing my children I enjoy listening to music, dancing, reading, reflecting, learning new skills (currently trying to learn Spanish!) as well getting to know new people in almost any setting. I also spend time volunteering. I do this through Postpartum Support International as a state coordinator and as a clinician with the Metro Omaha LOSS team. Families left behind after a death via suicide are very dear to my heart as are all grieving families.
I received a Master of Science in Counseling from University of Nebraska at Omaha, a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I am a Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner and Professional Counselor with the State of Nebraska. I also have an additional certification in the field of perinatal mood disorders through Postpartum Support International. I have also received additional training in EMDR and grief work. I am currently working on my certification as a sex therapist with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.
In addition to the above, I have received a wide variety of supplemental therapeutic training in working with anxiety, depression and transitions.
